Driftwood, Texas is a town sandwiched between the scenic views of Dripping Springs and lively Austin. It is a tiny and unincorporated town with so much history and numerous things to do. It hosts a dozen restaurants, breweries, wineries, and distillers dotting the landscape.

The community in Driftwood was established in the 1880s. The community’s significant growth in that decade saw the establishment of a post office in the area first. It then shrank a bit almost becoming a ghost town in early 20th century but it grew in the middle of the century.

Driftwood is home to the famous Salt Lick one of the best barbecue restaurants in Dripping Springs and the greater Austin area. Everyone coming to the Hill Country knows to look for this gem. The sprawling grounds at the Salt Lick have picnic tables, fairy lights, and a themed phone booth. This alone makes Driftwood a worthy town to visit.

Driftwood Wineries, Breweries, and Distilleries

This is one part of Central Texas where you get to eat and dine then enjoy a drink of your taste. From Fall Creek Vineyards one of the founding vineyards in Texas wine scene. They have gorgeous grounds and a welcoming tasting room. With their 40 years’ experience in the business, this is a must-stop. For the spirit lovers, Desert Door serves the purpose. It’s one of the Best Craft Specialty Spirits Distillery according to USA Today. One of the places where you get a taste of everything is the Hill Country Tasting Room. They have a selection of wines, beers, and ciders from across Texas.

If you are the adventure enthusiast, you get to take great pictures at the historic Texaco gas station. It’s no longer operational but has a charm that makes it a scenic place to visit in Driftwood. It’s also one of the most photographed spots in the town.

Romance isn’t dead in Driftwood. You can enjoy a romantic dinner for two at Trattoria Isina. They serve amazing pizza and other Italian dishes in a Tuscan-style architecture surrounded by beautiful oak trees. Driftwood is a no-miss town in Texas.
